The practice

Lockett Law is a modern general-counsel practice for teams shipping AI products. We are based in Arlington, Texas and we work US-wide, with practical cross-border experience for EU, UK, and Canadian counterparties. The firm was founded in 2025 to serve founders, product leads, and operators who were tired of translating their product into legal language for a lawyer, and then translating the lawyer back into engineering language for their team.

Our clients are typically pre-seed through Series B. Some are pre-revenue. Some are shipping to enterprise buyers with procurement departments that treat AI as a novel category. Some are open source teams whose model weights or datasets have become their most valuable asset. What they share is a product that is a model, an agent, or an inference pipeline, and a preference for counsel that treats those artifacts as legally significant.

How we are different

We are small on purpose. Every retainer client works with a named lead attorney, not a rotating pool of associates. When you send a question, you know who is answering it. When we send a memo, you know who wrote it. We keep the roster small so the retainer stays honest.

We are fluent in the artifacts. System prompts, model cards, evals, safety training write-ups, model weight licenses, dataset licenses, and the changelog of your last thirty deployments - we read these the way commercial lawyers read term sheets. If a customer asks whether your model was trained on their data, we can tell you the answer from your own repo, not from a hopeful footnote in your privacy policy.

We publish our principles because we want to be held to them. How we work is the working document, not the pitch page.

Practice founder

The firm is led by Daeron Lockett, a Texas attorney and long-time software operator. Before founding the practice, Daeron built products, ran engineering teams, and negotiated the exact kinds of contracts we now write for our clients. That background is why the firm exists in this shape - it is the counsel we wanted when we were on the operator side of the table.

What we do not do

We do not run active litigation of scale. When a matter needs a trial team, we help you pick one, hand off cleanly, and stay available to the operator side of your business. We do not do tax planning, immigration, family law, or criminal defense. When a client needs those, we refer.

Location and hours

Arlington, Texas. Monday through Friday, 9 to 6 Central. Time-sensitive matters and incidents are covered outside those hours by the terms of your engagement letter.
